Slovak Language Courses Information
Where can you find us?
Our school resides in two buildings: the first and central one is located at 38 Palisády Steet (near the Presidential Palace) and the second building is at 14 Vazovova Street Look at the map on our website http://www.1sjs.sk/sk/Uradne-hodiny-a-kontakty.alej
How long does a course take?
The school year starts in September and finishes at the end of June. It is divided into two semesters: the first semester lasts from September to the end of January and the second from February till the end of June. The school is closed in July and August because of summer holidays, but you can register for the course each Wednesday from 10 to 12 in the office at Palisády.
The courses normally start in September or occasionally in February, depending on the level of interest.
Which types of courses do we offer?
We offer “normal“ and “intensive“ courses.
Normal course means 3lessons per 45 minutes, once a week (one day). At the end of the first school year (105 lessons) the students finish with level A1 exam, the second year with A2, exam etc.
Intensive course means 6 lessons per 45 minutes, two times a week (two days). At the end of the first school year the students finish with level A1+A2 exams, at the end of the second with level B1+B2 exams etc.
Our school also offers a preparation course for the State Exam of Slovak Language (B2 or C1).
How much does one course cost?
For 2013/2014 school year the fees for the first semester are as follows:
Normal course 3 hours a week 76€ + 10€
Normal course 4 hours a week 93€ + 10€
Intensive course 6 hours a week 151€ + 10€
the 10€ are a contribution to our association “Dohovorme sa“ with which we finance photocopies and other materials for the lessons.
The students pay both fees for one semester in September (or in June of the previous school year) and then again in February.
How can you pay for the course?
You can pay for your course by credit card in the office on the first floor of our main building (38 Palisady Street) or on the ground floor of our second building (14 Vazovova Street). Is not possible to pay there in cash.
You can also pay in cash at the Post Office. The school will issue you two cheques with two above mentioned fees (for example 76€ and 10€) and you can pay them at the Post Office in cash.
You can also pay for the course by Internet Banking directly from your account.
In every payment you will need to state the code of the course in the place of “ variable code = VS“.
Before the course starts each teacher will collect the cash receipt, the cheque or the confirmation of the payment realized by Internet Banking as the evidence of the payment! It is therefore very important to bring it with you to the first lesson.
Which books do we use?
We use the book Krížom-Krážom A1, A2, B1 and supplementary literature Cvičebnica Krížom-Krážom A1+A2 . You can buy them in most bookshops, for example in Panta Rhei.
Which certificates do we offer?
Our school issues Certificates of Graduation after every school year. The students normally obtain it at the end of the school year.
We also issue Confirmation of Enrollment which is necessary for your visa application and the Foreign Police. This document is being issued by our Headmistress under the following conditions: the applicant has to provide a photocopy of his/her valid passport, a photocopy of his/her course fee payment and he/she has to fill in a personal data form. To ensure a better way of communication, it is also necessary to provide your telephone number and mail.
What do you do if you are not a total beginner?
If you are not a total beginner and you are not sure about your language level, you can search out a corresponding course on our website, come directly to the course and write an entrance/placement test. Then you will be placed in a suitable course according to your placement test results.
